Viewpoints
on Ko Chang in Thailand
- What to do
on Ko Chang? - |
(Viewpoint at Kai
Bae Beach on Ko Chang in Thailand) |
|
|
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
Besides the cultural and historical objects of interest
Ko Chang has to offer, there are several viewpoints
on the island. |
|
|
|
|
The viewpoint
at Bang Bao
Bay |
|
|
|
These offer wonderful
views over the individual beaches, bays and adjacent
islands.
We present the most beautiful
viewpoints with pictures and exact directions - starting
clockwise around the island from Bang Bao Bay. |
|
|
The southernmost viewpoint of Ko Chang
is situated a kilometre west of Baan
Bang Bao. In contrary to the all other viewpoints
it is not raised, but is directly by the sea.
The whole of Bang Bao Bay (left
panorama picture)
can be seen in one direction and Bang Bao Beach in the
other (panorama picture
above). |
The second is situated approximately
8 kilometres north, is raised and directly by the road,
just after passing Lonely
Beach. Here you can see the whole
of Bai Lan Bay
including Haad Thanam (right
panorama picture).
|
|
|
The next viewpoint is at Kai Bae
Beach, 1 kilometre before the village, also located
up on the mountain. It offers a fantastic view to the
islands Ko Yuak, Ko
Pli, Ko Man Nok and Ko Man Nai
(panorama
picture below). |
|
|
The fourth viewpoint,
about 50 metre further on directly at the entrance to
the road that leads to Sea
View Resort & Spa. |
|
|
|
|
It offers a fantastic view over the
complete northern part of the west coast up to the mountains
behind White Sand Beach
(right panorama above). |
One of the "unofficial"
viewpoints is located in the south of Klong Prao Beach.
At the sharp bend of the road turn to Chok Dee Resort.
It is situated at the end of the stone beach. You can
see the whole Klong Prao Beach (left
panorama picture). |
|
|
The next one is also by the road, approximately
600 metres behind White Sand Beach, after the road turns
in a right curve up into the mountain. All of Haad
Sai Kao and the southern mountains can be seen
from here (left panorama picture).
|
|
The northernmost viewpoint on Ko Chang is on the road
between White Sand Beach and Baan
Khlong Son, halfway down the mountain towards
Khlong Son Bay. Aow Khlong Son
and Sapparot Bay are visible, and with a little luck,
if the weather is clear, the view is good enough to
see the mainland (right panorama
picture). |
|
|
|
|
|
Another viewpoint is situated at the
road to Long Beach in the south of Ko Chang. Turn left
at the intersection of the main street, which is 14
kilometres south of Dan-Kao-Pier (always follow the
signs to the "Koh
Chang Remembrance"). Keep
on this road until the next bigger junction, there turn
left direction "Long
Beach". After a few hundred
metres the road gets step and winding. Short before
the road turns into a dust road it is on the right hand
site. You'll have an incredible view into Salak
Phet Bay and to the islands south
of Ko Chang (left
panorama picture). |
|
|
The last of the viewpoints
is near Baan Salak Phet
in the south of Ko
Chang. It is situated between the
1st and 2nd levels of the Ke Rhepet Waterfall and offers
a wonderful view over Salak
Phet Bay (picture
below).
As opposed to all other viewpoints, this one is only
achievable under less favourable conditions (further
directions under "What
to do on Ko Chang?", "Waterfalls").
|
All but the last viewpoint
at Ke Rhepet Waterfall are easily accessible, since
they are located directly on the main road. At White
Sand Beach, Kai
Bae Beach, the road to Long
Beach and at the end of Bang Bao
Bay they are made recognizable either with small huts
or with a small parking lot, only at Lonely
Beach and at
Khlong Son Bay there are no signs.
|
The viewpoints
at Lonely Beach and at Khlong Son Bay
should be visited with caution, since they are situated
on very dangerous curves!
