The east coast of Ko Chang is the least developed part of
the island. But, due to lengthening of the road, tourism is
slowly entering. |

The coast is very flat and partly overgrown
with mangroves. The accessible spots are to a large extent
stony, but there are also small, sandy beaches. At low tide, when there is less water, big sections
of the shore turn into swampy bays. Those who drive along
the road to Baan Salak Khok, to
Salak Phet Bay or to Long Beach, will appreciate the beauty
of this less explored section of the island.
All villages along the coast are located at the road, only
the 2 southernmost, Baan Khlong Rakam
and Baan Khlong Hin Kong, can
be reached by boat. |
 |
|
On the east coast you find Ko Chang´s
only public hospital, directly on the road at Baan
Khlong Nonsi, 6 kilometres from the Dan-Kao-Pier in
the southern direction.
The headquarters of the police is situated
600 metres south of the hospital. |
|
 |
Arrival/Departure:
In 2008 there was no regular taxi service along the east coast to the villages in the south.
But there are taxis leaving the pier so you have to ask there for futher information. |
 |
|
If coming by motorbike or car just follow the main road that leads along the east coast. The road ends either in Baan Salak Phet or after Long Beach.
Accommodation is available at the east coast but there are still not many bungalow resorts.
Tents can be rented at the National-Marine-Park-Headquarters,
which is also the starting point for a visit to Than Mayom
Waterfalls. (See 'What
to do on Ko Chang', 'The
Mu Ko Chang National Marine Park') |

We point out, that
in rainy-season between May and October, at some beaches strong
currents may occur!
Since people drowned already, we ask you not to ignore the
warning-signs! |
