There are 2 bays at the west coast of
Ko Mak: the big Aow Suan Yai in the centre and the small
Aow Pra in the southwest which is about 1 kilometre
long.
The flat beach of Aow Suan Yai (Suan Yai Beach) is approximately
3 kilometres long and changes according to the sea level.
At low tide the beach is about 200 meters wide, whereas
it is only a few meters wide during high tide. At some
parts there are stony parts, but you can walk around
easily. |
In the middle of Aow Suan Yai the
Ko Mak Pier is located.
The island post office, a little shop and an internet
café are situated directly at the pier.
After arrival of the
ferryboats there are taxis waiting that will bring you
to the other beaches. At the bungalow resort located
directly at the Ko Mak Pier scooters can be rented for
a trip round the island and boat tours to Ko Kham and
the closer islands can be booked. |
|
|
A few hundred metres south there is another private pier (see
VR above).
At the hill, directly beside the Koh Mak Villa, you will find
a view point from where you have a marvellous view to the
Suan Yai Bay, to Ko Kham, Ko Chang and other islands (panorama
picture on the right).
|
|
Opposite of Aow Suan Yai is the small paradise
island of Ko
Kham that is introduced on an own
page: |

As the
island was sold beginning of 2008 to our knowledge the
resort there is closed. |

We have been told that
sand-flies occur occasionally at both beaches
on the west coast, so you should ask at the bungalow
resorts about the current situation
and what kind of preservatives are best. |
|
|
Moreover there are a few bungalow resorts
located at Aow Suan Yai. Here you will find pictures
of some of the bungalows: |
